Greetings from Haiti! After a flight to Jacksonville Florida, a trip by cargo ship, and a helo ride, I finally made it to the USS FORT McHENRY on Saturday. Things are busy here. I will be going ashore in Haiti tomorrow for a humanitarian assiatnce project. We have about three of those a week. Tremendous amount of work to be done here. You can definitely see the hand of God at work. It is humbling to be a pert of it. Please feel free to publicize my e-mail howardmi@lsd43.navy.mil
Blessings and I hope to hear from you.

Have spent the last two days ashore in Haiti and wated to share a few thoughtsd and observations. We handed out or delivered more than 20,000 jars of peanut butter, rice water, and juice to two rural villages. Witnessing the poverty, destruction, and simplicity of life here has been humbling to say the least. I have had children hug me while walking between villages. I have seen kid's eyes light up when they receive something as simple as a jar of peanut butter. I have also had the opportunity to deliver food today to a hospital ran by Haitian nuns. The destruction is so severe that the patients live in tents. I have met incredible local pastors who pur their life into serving God and the people of Haiti. One such person is Charlie who was born in Massachusets, but has lived here for 26 years. he operates 22 schools and serves more than 6500 meals a day (pre-eartquake) to the kids there. Four of the schools are back up. Another is Pastor Antonio who has built an outdoor chapel (with pews) for services since his chapel collapsed. The majority of the 1,000 person village turns out for services. he knows each person and their unique situation. I also met Isaiah who is a local evangelist. he is out guide and translator at times and serves God in amazing ways here in Haiti. I feel blessed to be doing a very small part here. God is at work, but the destruction is incredible. To even restore this place to pre-earthquake levels will take quite some time. I would encourage you to earnestly pray for Haiti. Ask God for a spiritual awakening to occur that will drive the people of this country towards Christ. Although there seem to be alot of Christians here, there are many that aren't. If possible, I would ask that you consider a day of prayer for Haiti, asking God to work a miracle in this land and in the hearts of this people. Thanks for your e-mails and your prayers. I love and miss you. Mike Howard
