Beginning in and around 1864, a group of people occasionally met and held church services in an old log building which was located on the White Farm (this farm was located approximately five miles from the present location of 100 Old 30 Road, Maysville, North Carolina). The Church was originally known as Capernaum Baptist Church. Later, the old log building was abandoned and the Church services were moved to a schoolhouse, which stood near the home of Mr. B. M. Riggs. Records are incomplete as to the founders of the Church.

 

The congregation was first organized in 1875. The following year, 1876, the Capernaum Baptist Church became a member of the Eastern Baptist Association.

 

Prior to the year of 1898, it appears that no written membership records were kept. The Church was called into conference is which a motion was presented, seconded and carried to dissolve the Church. A record book was purchased and the Church was reorganized. All previous members were invited to enter their names in the Record Book.

 

 

Mr. B. T. Jones entered into a Gentlemen's agreement (oral agreement) with the members of the Church and donated land at the present location for the new Church building.  Under the guidance of the Building Committee, a wooden frame building was erected and the Church moved its services to the new location.

 

 

Capernaum Baptist Churchbecame a member of the Neuse Atlantic Association in the year of 1907.

 

 

October 5, 1914, The Church name was changed to Grants Creek Baptist Church.

 

 

In the year of 1929, Grants Creek Baptist Church became a charter member of the Atlantic Baptist Church Association.

 

 

New rooms were added to the Church building in the year of 1934.

 

In the year of 1948, the Church building was started and new pews were ordered.

 

 

In the year of 1953, Mr. C. Graham Jones Sr. and his wife, Ruby M. Jones, deeded the property beside the Church on which the Parsonage was constructed. The Parsonage was completed in 1954.

 

 

The Davis Memorial Library was established in the year of 1955.

 

Grants Creek Church united with the New River Baptist Association in the year of 1960.

 

 

The Education Building was completed and put into service in the year of 1963.

 

In the year of 1973, Mr. C. Graham Jones, Sr. donated additional property to the Church for a new Church Building. The original Church building and pews were sold and moved off the property. The interior of the Education Building was painted and tiled. Groundbreaking ceremonies for the new Sanctuary and the renovation of the Educational building were held on April 15, 1973. Oak pews were purchased for the new Sanctuary.

 

 

Groundbreaking ceremony for the Education and Fellowship Hall was held on January 15, 1995. Dedication was held on August 25, 1996. 

 

A basketball court was added in to support the Youth Ministry in 2001.  Soon after, a covered pavilion was constructed to accommodate church functions.

 

The parsonage was converted to a Youth Center in 2005 and a playground was added in 2007.
